AppleInsider has a thorough review of Apple's Wireless keyboard. Toward the end of the review, the reviewer comes up with a brilliant request for Apple,
"One feature I'd like to see added requires new software support on the iPhone: the ability to pair the phone to the Bluetooth keyboard. Imagine using the duo as a hyper thin traveling companion for taping out notes. That, my friend, is a genius idea, especially if they create an attachment to perch the iPhone as shown. Make it happen Apple.
Maybe like this:
This would be beautiful. Any way to make an application for firmware 2.0 which would make this possible?
ReplyDeletedoes anyone have update on this?
ReplyDeleteThe Apple wireless keyboard works great on a Nokia N95 phone.
ReplyDeleteA better addition would be an infra-red keyboard so that the iphone broadcasts the keyboard onto any table top. Canesta, from San Jose in Silicon Valley, has designed what it calls an integrated projection keyboard for mobile and wireless devices. If Apple plugged this into the iphone the whole world would swoon again. I'm sure its just a matter of time before this is incorporated into the iphone but until then being able to tether them would be a big plus.

Any news on the above??
ReplyDeleteI can second the Apple wireless keyboard works wonders on the N95 (especially the function keys)..
In addition to the infared keyboard, incorporate the new mini laser video projector so that an image of the iPhone screen can be projected on a wall or screen. The infrared keyboard and projector would make it possible for me to eliminte the need for a laptop.
ReplyDeleteIt's seems incredible that any other cell phone with BT can be syncronized with any apple computer and conected with an apple wireless keboard and it does not happen with the iphone. It's like the iphone weren't made for mac users.
ReplyDeleteI can sincronize my nokia w810 with my macbook pro and my intel iMac butI can't do it with my iphone and so with my apple wireless keyboard.
I love apple but sometimes...
I own a iPhone. If Apple doesn't come out with a BT keyboard for the iPhone I am seriously looking toward BB Storm.
ReplyDeleteSERIOUSLY! I think it's to protect laptop sales, at the risk of sounding like a conspiracy theorist. I mean, a keyboard and the ability to download files to the local (not just view them in Safari or sync them over ftp to an app) are the only things that really differentiate Apple touch devices from computers at this point. And the ability to run multiple apps at once, which is probably going to be fixed in the third gen iPhone. Keyboard is the big one though. You can find your way around the rest with apps like MobileStudio.
ReplyDeleteI thought this was possible with Jailbroken iPhone's...
ReplyDeleteThis sucks Blackberry Bold 9000 here I come .
ReplyDeleteComing soon in iPhone 3.0?
ReplyDelete"I thought this was possible with Jailbroken iPhone's..."
ReplyDeleteYou can, but it hasn't been said if the guy who developed the app to do it really released it. Plus, jailbreaking voids your warranty with apple.
"Coming soon in iPhone 3.0?"
It is supposed do, it hasn't been specifically said but it was said that bluetooth connectivity was open for developers to use, if a lovely developer decides to write an app for connecting a bluetooth keyboard. Then we are in business.
btw, for the conspiricy theory goin' on up top. 'I have an iMac, MacBook Pro and an iPhone 3G and i have to say, no matter what, there is no way my iPhone will have the power or screen room that my computers have. I guess if your an office goon, then the iPhone itself could last you. But the iPhone will never replace a computer.
Any word on the pairing of the Apple Wireless Keyboard with iPhone and the 3.0 operating system at WWDC? Please say it is so . . .
ReplyDeleteNothing at WWDC 09, but you gotta think there are at least a couple keyboard manufacturers working on it. They would probably have to sell an app along with a keyboard, because I think Apple would be unlikely to support a Bluetooth/30-pin dock connecting keyboard for the iPhone in general (ie, for email, notes, etc).
ReplyDeleteI am so thrilled that people are requesting the key board. Typing on the iPhone is so tedeis not to mention time consuming. Apple should have thought of this in the first place. I personally think that the iPhone should be able to connect to a laptop when needed for bigger screen and keyboard. Now that would be somthing.
ReplyDeleteWireless keyboard can sit in a office conference room, Living room and can instantly go mobile with easy fitting in a briefcase or backpack.
ReplyDeleteDammit! when can I use my wireless BLUETOOTH Apple keyboard with my 3GS!?!? 3.1????
ReplyDeletePalm will get you yet, iPhone fanboys! They had the first folding keyboard for their devices, and are revolutionizing things with their new WebOS. iPhone seems to want to stay in the "entertainment" arena instead of competing with the "business" phones out there. And I have an iMac at home, which I love, but I've been a Palm-er since the Pilot days.
ReplyDeleteI can't seem to pair the keyboard at all. I'm using the bluetooth setup assistant and it finds the keyboard, issues me a passkey to use
ReplyDeleteHello
ReplyDeleteI Love that i finally unlocked my iphone 2g , now i can use it on any network worldwide without a data plan , the unlock was really easy to do

Is it ok for iPhone 4.0?
ReplyDeleteIt would really be useful!
ReplyDeleteyou can now use any bluetooth keyboard on the iphone... just upgrade your software to the newest verson, 4.1.0 which came available a couple of days ago... no need to jailbreak your phone...
ReplyDeletethe new iphone 13 This was incredibly an exquisite implementation of your ideas
